Proving that Cake Smashes Aren’t Just for Babies:

A 40th Birthday Celebration Panda Style!

When you think of cake smashes, you probably picture a one-year-old covered in frosting, giggling and making a mess. But what if I told you that cake smashes aren’t just for babies?!

That’s exactly what I proved when I celebrated my 40th birthday! With my very own panda-themed cake smash photoshoot!

Now I am definitely not the first adult to do a cake smash, but nearly every adult cake smash I have seen has been ‘refined’ or ‘lady-like’ with skirts and drinking wine – Well, that just isn’t me!

I am a bit crazy and like a bit of fun and lots of laughs! And I am totally obsessed with Panda’s! So the idea of doing a Panda themed cake smash was simply a no brainer for me! Incorporating the cute cuddly bears that I love, the craziness of ‘me’ and a fun silly outfit!

Traditionally cake smashes are for babies celebrating their 1st Birthday – But why stop at just one year old? Cake smashes are a fun way to celebrate any milestone, whether it’s your first birthday or your 40th!

I wanted to show that cake smashes aren’t just for babies, they’re for anyone who wants to have some fun and make some memories. At the end of the day, a cake smash is about having fun and making memories, no matter your age!

“I wanted to do something different for my 40th birthday and what better way than to have a cake smash photoshoot?! It was so much fun and it totally sums up who I am in a nutshell!”

I had lots of fun and giggles as I got messy with a yummy cake, all while dressed up in my panda costume (my panda onesie!). I made sure to capture some video footage of my antics and the photos summed up and captured the playful, lighthearted spirit of the occasion!

In addition to the playful spirit of the occasion, my 40th birthday cake smash photoshoot had an extra special touch! – My 8-year-old son joined me as assistant and director! (And joined me for some cake munching too!)

My son, named ‘chief director’ of this photoshoot, simply bossed me on what to do with the cake! To be fair to him, he is a seasoned pro at cake smashing! Every year he has his own cake smash photoshoot to celebrate his birthday! It is a become a fun family tradition and thanks to this he was able to expertly guide me through the delicious, fun-filled antics of the cake smashing photoshoot!

We have made some amazing memories along the way, and we have had so much fun together doing them every year together!

Cake Smashes Made Individual

I absolutely LOVE photographing cake smashes, and capturing precious moments for families. But I have also have a passion for designing and creating unique sets for each photoshoot. It’s a HUGE part of any session, and getting it right really helps to bring not only the images to life, but brings so much happiness to the session too!

As a photographer who specialises in cake smash photography, I didn’t want to miss out on all the fun, which is why I just had to have my very own cake smash photoshoot! I love being behind the camera capturing the memories, but this time I wanted to be part of the fun!

I get so much joy out of creating these sets and watching my clients have fun in them, so I didn’t want to miss out on that experience myself. Plus, who doesn’t love an excuse to play with cake?!

My panda-themed cake smash set was no exception to any other set, a great deal of time and effort into goes into making these sets and making sure every detail is perfect! From the design process, to creating the props, to bringing it all together for the final images – it’s not as simple as just putting it together – getting it right takes time!

This is one of the reasons why I encourage all my clients to book their cake smash as early as possible so that I have that ‘creative-time’ to think, get my ‘craft’ on to make some adorable props and to simply make everything perfect!
